Update 12/1/2020: OCSD working with agencies to remedy soil contamination

During the construction process of this phase of the 2018 Capital Project, visibly stained soils were discovered in the area along Hillside Avenue known as the former Wilber Field. This discovery has led to further investigation, remediation discussions and plans.

To remain transparent regarding the process, the district has created the following resources to answer anticipated questions and help the community learn the next steps of the plans for remediation. This page and resources will be updated as more information becomes available.

Please browse the site which contains several links and information regarding the voter approved 2018 Capital Project. Many of the resources are from the proposal stage, prior to adoption, and we will be adding updates throughout the project's construction to share progress. 

The Oswego City School District is a beacon of light within the community, and we would like to share how important it is to ensure that light never dims. To protect our facilities, we are proposing a capital project- with minimal out-of-pocket cost to our taxpayers- which ensures safety, savings and success for all. Our top priority is to offer a safe environment which enables our students, staff members and visitors to thrive inside classrooms and elsewhere on school grounds. Some learning spaces and outdoor surfaces need repair or replacement to protect the health and well-being of all who occupy our buildings at any given point of time. The life cycle of several windows, doors, boiler systems, roofs and select outdoor space are nearing the end of their usability. Several additional improvements include: classroom wall restructuring, required water system updates, carbon monoxide detector system replacement and asbestos abatement, among others. These improvements have been decades in the making. These are investments to ensure our students- your children- can maximize their potential, the district remains equitable and we continue to be inviting and welcoming to all.
