Buc girls track team has fantastic meet at sectionals

The Oswego Girls Varsity Track and Field Team was at Chittenango on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 competing in the Section 3 Class A Championships. With the state meet being canceled, this was the biggest meet of the season. The Bucs held nothing back with personal bests all over. 
 
The girls 4x800 relay team of Gretchen Dowd, Sophia Babcock, Kaitlyn Donoghue and Annie Niger finished 3rd in the section running 30 seconds faster than they had ever run before with a time of 10:49. In the 4x100 relay the team of Emily Powers, Nola Blum, Francesca Scanlon and Sydney Hoefer finished with a season best time of 57.34, just missing scoring points. The final relay of the meet was run by Gretchen Dowd, Sophia Babcock, Anne Niger and Victoria Payne in the 4x400. Oswego finished in 4th with a season best time of 4:34.
 
Victoria Payne was a big leader on the track scoring 18 points. V. Payne finished in 2nd in the 400 with a time of 61.77 and a big personal best. V. Payne was also a big winner in the 200, coming out on top as a Section 3 Champion. In the long jump V. Payne, her 4th event, she finished 5th in the section with a leap of 15’7”.
 
The Bucs had a great day in the field events. Senior Morgan Samson was just 2 feet off her season best finishing 6th in the discus with a toss of 89’6”, scoring her first sectional points. Finally Cordelia Brown had a big day. Brown entered the high jump as the 5th seed but walked away with 2nd place, 8 points and a huge personal best jumping 5’ for the first time. 
 
The lady Bucs had a fantastic day and finished smack dab in the middle of the 13-school Class A. The Buccaneers look forward to being out on the new track next year and picking up where they left off.
