Bucs in the news: Unified Basketball tips off season

Unified basketball player JR puts up the runner during recent scrimmage with MACSThe Unified Basketball team was recently featured in an outstanding article by the Palladium-Times on the tip-off to their season!

Brian Parrotte, a physical education teacher at the high school, stepped up to coach the Oswego team and said just like his players, he is having a blast.

“This is an absolute thrill for the kids. It’s an environment they weren’t used to, but they’ve adjusted and developed great communication amongst each other,” he said.

Parrotte said his style from the beginning was to emphasize communication, not winning.?

“We’ve developed our own language and it’s been a good learning environment for everyone to re-establish good communication,” he said.

Peyton Reese, a senior at Oswego High School said he is glad he joined the unified sports program because he has had the opportunity to meet people he probably would have never come in contact with otherwise.

“I’ve learned how to work and communicate with all different types of people and they’ve taught me so much,” he said. “I’m excited for the rest of our season.”

Check out the Unified home games at the Frederick Leighton Elementary gymnasium on April 30 and May 11 - tip off at 4:30 p.m. for both dates.
