This year we will be launching a school-wide philosophy called The Leader in Me. We will be learning some powerful leadership principles from the book called, The 7 Habits of Happy Kids written by Sean Covey. His father, Stephen R. Covey is the author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Stephen R. Covey presents these “Habits” through a philosophy called The Leader in Me and presents these “Habits” to guide schools and parents as they cultivate the opportunity to teach important life skills that will assist our students in becoming productive teens and adults. Our staff believes that all students are leaders.
We will begin "Bucket-Filling" as a part of our philosophy. That means that we strive to be Bucket Fillers. This year our students will begin to become familiar with this term. Students will learn that all people have an invisible bucket. When we say and do kind things, we fill a person’s bucket. A full bucket makes us happy. When someone says or does something unkind, they “dip” into our bucket. This is called “bucket-dipping.” As a school, we must all work together to promote being a Bucket Filler every day!
Our mission at Charles E. Riley Elementary is to Develop Leaders One Child at a Time!
On occasion we come together for school-wide celebrations. These school-wide assemblies will allow students to present their knowledge of leadership. Students from various grades will have an opportunity to take leadership roles to provide: our welcome, CER reporter, and present building awards. We welcome a different classroom, grade level, or group to provide a short presentation focusing on a featured leadership habit. To learn more about the 7 Habits of Happy Kids. Parents are an important part of the Leader in Me and we welcome you to participate in the parent celebrations we will offer throughout the year!
