At the start of a new year, many of us become reflective and consider changes and improvements for the coming months. Exercising more often, eating a balanced diet, and spending more time with family top the list. Consider breaking a general New Year’s goal down into manageable monthly mini-goals and strive to reach those goals, as a family.

The January Habit for Highly Effective Teens is Think Win-Win. Our student handbooks feature a Student Leadership Development Program, and each month we reflect upon one of the Highly Effective Habits. Teachers incorporate the Habit into lessons and classroom discussions, we ask students to consider the Habit in their daily actions, and poster reminders can be found around the school. Student Council also recognizes students who exemplify the Habit, based on faculty and staff nominations. To me, this month’s Habit is about considering how it’s not you or me, but both of us. This Habit is the foundation for learning to get along well with other people.

Regents exam week is nearly upon us and we are a few weeks away from the start of the second semester. It’s hard to believe that the year is halfway completed. Our JupiterGrades log-in numbers are remarkable. We have nearly 90% of our parents and students checking on a weekly basis. Please reach out to teachers if you or your child have concerns. We are here to help!

The next Parent Advisory Council is scheduled for Monday, January 9th at 4:30pm. All parents and guardians are welcome to join us. If you would like more information, please contact me (hsweeney@oswego.org or 341-2200).

Winter in central New York is a great time for many outdoor and indoor activities but it also allows us to slow down and spend time with our family on these cozy, chilly evenings. Sit down to some comfort food, play a family board game, or read a book together. Enjoy the quieter, slower pace post-holidays.
Happy New Year,

Heidi Sweeney, Ed. D.
