Oswego County student-athletes participate in OlympiadHundreds of local student-athletes united for a day of fun, friendship and competition May during the Oswego County Olympiad Invitational.
Teams from the Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation and all nine Oswego County school districts participated in the annual event, hosted by the Phoenix Central School District. Bagpipers, bands, cheerleaders and mascots cheered for the participants as opening ceremonies began with a parade around the Phoenix high school track.
“This is an incredible event and these athletes are so inspiring,” said PCSD physical education teacher and event committee member Angie Neiss. “The day is so much more than a competition … it’s about teamwork, friendship and courage.”
Those characteristics were on display as the games began and athletes competed in running events, adaptive races, shotput, softball throw, long jump and other activities. Throughout the day, hundreds of volunteers, school personnel and family members were on hand to provide encouragement to the participants.
“It was a true collaborative effort and I would like to thank everyone who made this such a success,” Neiss said. “What an awesome day!”
