CER spring band concert showcases progress

Several students at Charles E. Riley Elementary School have musically matured into talented instrumentalists, according to band director Kristen Jorgensen.
During the recent spring concert, held at the Oswego High School theater, Jorgensen beamed with pride as she told guests how rewarding it has been to see students in both the beginner band and fifth-sixth grades band have grown since the fall. At the March concert, she said, it was a big accomplishment for the mostly fourth-graders in beginner band to play notes at the same time while staying in rhythm. During their May concert, they performed “March,” “Beethoven’s Ninth” and “Tyrannosaurus Rocks” with advanced techniques of different sections playing simultaneously.
Students in the fifth-sixth grades band, Jorgensen said, have seen the benefit of pushing themselves forward with more challenging music. That was reflective during each of the following pieces: “Penta,” “Creepy Crawlies,” “Heavy Metal” and “Casey’s Last Run.”
All students in both bands were ecstatic to take their final bows of the 2017-2018 school year.
