Updated Press Release
May 29, 2018

On 5/28/2018, at approximately 9:30 AM, the Oswego City Police Department received information that there was a suspicious picture on social media. The picture was of a juvenile holding a rifle that appeared to be real with a threat made towards an unspecified school. The Oswego Police department, immediately began an investigation. Within a
brief period, several juveniles, who were alleged to have been involved, were located, interviewed and the threat was determined to not be credible. The alleged weapon was located and it was determined to be a plastic toy gun. Oswego Police continued their investigation and ultimately charged one 13-year-old male with the offense, if committed by an adult, of Falsely Reporting an Incident in the Third Degree. Due to the age of the subject, the matter will be referred to the Juvenile Justice System in Oswego County Family Court. The Oswego City Police Department has been in communication with the Superintendent of the Oswego City School District throughout the course of the investigation and an additional police presence was in, and around, area schools today to help ease tensions regarding the incident. At the time of the original release, charges had yet to be filed but were pending.
Additionally, the matter has also been referred to the Oswego City School District for their administrative consideration. Anybody with any additional information can contact the Oswego City Police at 315-342-8120.
