Sweeney Todd Represented at Syracuse High School Theatre AwardsThe Oswego High School cast of Sweeney Todd represented their school mightily at June 3rd’s 4th annual Syracuse High School Theatre Awards held at the Landmark Theatre in Syracuse. With three additional wins this year, Oswego High School remains the most awarded program amongst the participating schools. Wins this year included: Best Ensemble/Chorus, Best Direction (Garrett Heater), and Outstanding Actor in a Leading Role (Nolan Callahan). Other nominations this year include: Rising Star (Matt Caraccioli), Best Stage Crew, Best Music Direction (Robert Dumas), Outstanding Actress in a Leading Role (Leah Mullen), Outstanding Production Number, and Best Overall Production.
Directors Heater and Dumas are especially excited for the Ensemble/Chorus award. “Theatre is a group effort and this award recognizes that everyone in the cast worked hard,” commented Dumas who also noted that it was the third consecutive year that OHS has won in this category.
Stage Director Heater noted that Nolan Callahan has been duly noted for his achievements over the years. Callahan was first nominated in the Rising Star Category his sophomore year for his portrayal of Old Joe in Damn Yankees, was nominated and won during last year’s ceremony for Lord Evelyn Oakleigh in Anything Goes!
Dumas and Heater both feel that the SHSTAs are a great opportunity for the students to be recognized for their hard work, but also for them to meet students with similar interests from other schools. “We are grateful to the Syracuse Area Honda Dealers for sponsoring such a valuable program,” noted Heater.
