OHS unveils new main office space

The Oswego High School’s main office relocation project grand opening showcased the new space as welcoming and secure.
OHS Principal Patrick Wallace joined Oswego City School District Superintendent Dr. Dean Goewey, Board of Education members, OCSD staff members and community members in exploring the fresh location, complete with the Buccaneer blue and white color scheme. The suite features windows for natural light, private offices, a conference room, teacher mail boxes, an inviting reception area and a single-point-of-entry from the outside.
Wallace commended all attendees for their support and offered much gratitude to those who realized the necessity of the project and made the construction efforts possible. He thanked Dr. Goewey for his vision of transforming the former classroom spaces to create a relocated, updated and safely secured main office/entrance for OHS.
“This was the only school left in our district that didn’t have a single-point-of-entry that led directly to the main office,” Dr. Goewey said.
The project brought the building’s main entrance up to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and is now wheelchair—accessible. The main entrance transitioned from the theater entrance to an adjacent, level-grounded area. Dr. Goewey said the construction efforts were a part of the district’s continuous improvements to teaching, learning and administrative spaces.
It was simply time for the project, he said, when the district decided to sell the education center and the technology offices needed to vacate that building on East First Street. The district went to the community for permission for the project and to use $750,000 from the district’s capital reserve account, to be paid back by the sale of the education center. That sale occurred in the fall.
The district technology offices have since moved from their temporary location at the high school to the old OHS main office, right across the hall from the new one, where the security office also is located.
