Pearson- AIMSweb Cyber Incident

The folllowing letter from Dr. Goewey was previously provided to guardians on August 29, 2019 via email.

Dear Parent/Guardians/Eligible Students,

This letter is to inform you of a data security incident, believed to have occurred on or around November 2018, involving the unauthorized access to Personally Identifiable Information (PII) from the AIMSweb 1.0 system. AIMSweb is an assessment platform that was previously utilized by the Oswego City School District and is provided by Pearson Clinical Assessment (Pearson). The attack was focused on Pearson alone; our school district did not suffer a cyber security breach.

The District was informed of the full extent of the incident on August 28, 2019.

The data about your student(s) that was potentially affected was limited to the following:

- First Name, Middle Name, Last Name, Date of Birth, School District Email Address, AIMSweb User ID and School Building Attended

Please know that the Oswego City School District is committed to protecting and securing educational data. Our team has extensive training in data security and privacy, and our systems have many controls in place to protect your educational records. Additionally, we have also received assurances that Pearson has taken the necessary steps to mitigate the incident and is enhancing protections to guard against similar events.

While it is our understanding that there is no evidence that the information described above has been misused, Pearson is offering complimentary credit monitoring from Experian for one year for affected individuals as a precautionary measure. If you are interested in learning more about this option, please call Experian at 866-883-3309 or email aimsweblrequest@pearson.com

For more additional information please visit, www.cnyric.org/pearsonInfo. CNYRIC will continue to update this webpage with additional details shared by Pearson and/or the FBI.

Sincerely,

Dean F. Goewey, Ed.D.
Superintendent
