Letter 01.08.2021: District furloughs anticipated

Jan. 8, 2021

Dear staff,

I am writing to share that late this afternoon the Board of Education passed a resolution at its Board of Education meeting which involves authorizing the District where necessary, to furlough some district staff.

As you are all aware, due to COVID-19 related concerns the district has had to temporarily shut down some of its operations. Given this reality and the fact that the district is legally obligated under the New York State Constitution to refrain from gifting public funds for any purpose, the district is now planning to implement furloughs wherever needed as we move forward throughout the remainder of this school year.

Please know that if or when the District determines to make a furlough decision, all district staff who will be furloughed will be notified where necessary by their direct supervisor and/or the Personnel Office. We will keep all affected employees informed as we continue to move forward through these difficult times. Also know, it is our desire that furloughs will not be long-lasting. However, they are subject to the operational needs of the district.

Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Mathis Calvin, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
