OCSD relocates Central Offices to Leighton Elementary School

The Oswego City School District has completed the majority of the work involved in moving its central offices to Frederick Leighton Elementary School and district officials say it’s “business as usual” following the effort.

The offices of Curriculum, Personnel, Special Education and Superintendent Dr. Dean Goewey are now operational within Leighton’s east wing. The Business Office is expected to complete its move in the coming weeks.

Goewey said the relocation went “very smoothly and was completed ahead of schedule” and made possible by the hard work of the district’s Facilities and Grounds staff.

“It was a huge move and when we’re so close to the beginning of school, people are being pulled in every direction, but our staff did a great job,” Goewey said.

The “one-stop-shop” within Leighton, located and accessible by the entrance near the school’s playground, will provide easy access to the district’s essential administrative services for parents and community members. Visitors are advised to park in the angled parking spots immediately adjacent to Oswego High School.

The move from the Education Center on East First Street is part of the district’s continuing mission to be student centered, and Goewey said it was a deliberate decision to place the administrative side of OCSD in close proximity to students and teachers.

“This puts our Central Offices at the main hub of our district,” said Goewey. “We’ve been here less than a week and it’s business as usual – parents are coming in and registering students and when people come here, they’re going to realize how easy the offices are to maneuver.”

For the safety of students and teachers, the district has also installed an electronic passcode and security camera system and constructed new doors in the hallway leading from the Central Offices to Leighton to prevent unauthorized entry into the school.
