Letter: OHS incident, update on 1.27

January 27, 2022

Dear Oswego City School District Community,

I am writing today to inform everyone of an incident that occurred today at Oswego High School where a student verbally threatened an administrator and violence against the school.

A large group of students may have witnessed this event as it was occurring. I wanted to make sure everyone knew that the threat has been investigated by local police and has been deemed not credible. Per protocol, we will have additional personnel from our School Resource Officer team at Oswego High School tomorrow morning for added safety measures.

This morning, also at the high school, there were several classrooms, the cafeteria and one of our gymnasium spaces that briefly experienced a heating issue due to a boiler problem. Our operations and maintenance team resolved the issue and heat was restored shortly after the problem was reported to us, though some may have temporarily experienced a colder-than-usual learning experience. We apologize for this inconvenience and thank our operations and maintenance team for fixing the matter so quickly.

Should you have any questions or comments, please feel free to reach out to High School Principal Ryan Lanigan at your convenience.

Yours in Education,
Mathis Calvin III
Superintendent of Schools
