OMS student leads history lesson, sharing grandfather’s story
A recent lesson in Connor Griffin’s history class at the Oswego Middle School had a more personal perspective as one student shared her grandfather’s war story.Seventh grader Nicolette Licatese led a class discussion about her grandfather’s experience in World War II and the Pearl Harbor attacks. She brought in a newspaper from the attack on Pearl Harbor and shared other documents and photos from her grandfather’s time in the military, explaining the significance of each item.
“Days like this show us why history matters,” Griffin said. “When we see ourselves as a piece of the story, the connections we make become stronger. Nicolette did a great job personalizing history and making it more relatable. Her classmates were able to gain a different perspective as well.”
