Oswego High School Students Write Dozens of Letters to Veterans for Honor Flight

Oswego High School social studies students took part in a meaningful act of civic engagement this week by writing thank-you letters to veterans participating in the Honor Flight out of Syracuse.

The effort was part of a classroom initiative aimed at teaching students about the importance of recognizing the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces. Each student wrote two personalized letters, resulting in every one of the 52 veterans on the flight receiving dozens of messages of appreciation.

In preparation, students viewed videos of past Honor Flights and participated in classroom discussions about the significance of veterans’ service and the value of public gratitude. The activity culminated in a powerful demonstration of respect and appreciation.

The Honor Flight program provides veterans with an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to visit memorials and take part in ceremonies recognizing their service.
