Superintendent's Letter: COVID Update 10.05.20

October 5, 2020

Dear Oswego CSD Parents, Guardians, and Community,

The district was notified late this afternoon by the Onondaga and Oswego County Health Departments that we have a student who attends Fitzhugh Park Elementary School who has tested positive for COVID-19. Upon notification, District officials, in conjunction with both health departments, immediately began to investigate and discuss the implications of this matter, which included, but was not limited to, protocols for contact tracing.

The student impacted by this concern was last in attendance on Sept. 25, 2020. It is important to note the student tested positive on Oct. 3, 2020.

Given the time that has lapsed since the student was in attendance, additional health related factors were evaluated and considered. The district has done multiple deep cleanings in all of our schools and offices, including Fitzhugh Park Elementary School, and the health department has determined that it is safe for all of our schools to continue to provide “in person” instruction.

It is our hope our community understands we cannot provide any additional information about this student, or others who might be involved, due to confidentiality and legal privacy constraints.

Out of an abundance of caution, we ask that families please keep an eye out for COVID-19 signs and symptoms: fever (equal to or greater than 100 degrees F), cough, loss of taste or smell, fatigue/feeling tired, sore throat, shortness of breath or trouble breathing, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, body aches, headache, nasal congestion and runny nose. Please know the District is taking every precaution to protect the health and safety of its students and employees. We will continue to closely monitor this situation and communicate updates whenever possible.

We appreciate your support and understanding on this matter. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to your school Principal or the District’s COVID -19 hotline at 315-341-2050.

Sincerely,

Mathis Calvin III, Ed. D.
Superintendent of Schools
