Weekly superintendent's letter: 08.19.21

August 19, 2021

Dear Oswego City School District Parents and Guardians,

I am writing to share an update with all of you on our planning efforts as we approach the beginning of the school year. Please see below for information of note for this week:

Website Posting of Information

In an effort to ensure that parents and guardians have the most updated information as we are approach the beginning of the new school year, reopening information will be posted to the district’s website. Parents and guardians are invited to visit our home webpage to find all current communication to the public (i.e. letters, PowerPoints, health information, etc.).

School Schedules

The district plans to return to its regular schedule for this upcoming year. This means both secondary schools (OHS and OMS) will begin at 7:30 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m. Our elementary schools will all begin at 8:45 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m.

School Supplies & Materials

Recently, the district has received several inquiries about what materials parents and/or guardians should purchase for their child(ren) in preparation for the school year. Please know, the district has no restrictions on the supplies and materials that parents may purchase this year and send in to school. To add to this, parents and guardians should know that students can bring book bags and water bottles to school throughout the year.

It should also be noted, on Monday, Aug. 23, 2021, there will be a “Stuff-a-Bus” supplies distribution – give away for all Oswego City School students.  This free event will begin at 4 p.m. and end at 6:30 p.m. and will be held at Fitzhugh Park Elementary School (near the East Cayuga Street entrance). All district families are welcome to attend this event. During the event, donated school supplies and materials will be provided to any family who attends.

Food Nutrition

Due to the ongoing pandemic, NYS has decided to continue to provide all students with free meals while they attend school. Accordingly, all parents and guardians should know that the district will provide free breakfast and lunch for students throughout the school year.

Transportation Survey

As I shared in my most recent letter, the district is requesting that all parents and guardians complete its online transportation survey. This survey will assist the district with our transportation planning efforts for the school year. FILL OUT THE SURVEY HERE

Please be advised, transportation schedules will be mailed out to all parents and/or guardians by no later than Sept. 1, 2021. Should any parents and/or guardians have questions about their child’s schedule, they are asked to contact the transportation department directly at 315-341-2900.

Thank you again for your time and anticipated support of our plans that put health and safety at the forefront. Please know I will be in touch again next week.

Yours in Education,
Mathis Calvin III, Ed.D.
