Minetto students learn about cows

Minetto students visited virtually in late January with Emma Shirley from Old McDonald's/North Harbor Dairy Farm to learn about cows and even got to see the very beginning of a live birth.

Shirley gave the students a virtual tour of the birthing barn, milking barn, filtration process and a rundown of the feeding process along with the importance of all the nutrients the cows need. She discussed weekly vet visits, and the process of their electronic tags, so if the tag sets off a sensor, then a gate opens up and the cow goes through the separation alley to see the doctor.

Students also were fortunate to start seeing a live birth, but only saw the head, but Shirley sent a little video of the baby and mom cleaning her up afterward.
