OHS Students Prepare to Perform Disney’s Newsies

Oswego High School will bring the high-energy musical “Newsies” to the stage in the coming weeks, with a cast of talented students set to perform the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a young newsboy who leads a group of underdogs in a fight for justice.

Set in turn-of-the-century New York City, "Newsies” follows Jack and his band of "newsies" as they strike against the powerful publishers who raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense. The production is inspired by the 1992 Disney motion picture and based on a true story. Featuring a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman, and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein, “Newsies” is packed with beloved songs like “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe.”

Directed and produced by Oswego High School’s talented theater department, the show promises a thrilling experience with its message of courage, community, and standing up for what’s right.
