Oswego City School District Accepting Universal Pre-K Applications for 2025-2026 School Year

The Oswego City School District is now accepting applications for Universal Pre-K classes for the 2025-2026 school year. The program is free for all children who reside within the district and will turn 4 years old by Dec. 1, 2025.

There are eight half-day sessions and one full-day session available. The half-day sessions are offered at Kingsford, Minetto, Fitzhugh, and Riley elementary schools. Morning sessions run from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and afternoon sessions are from 12:45 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. The full-day session is held at Frederick Leighton Elementary School, from 9 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. Busing is available by the district on regular bus routes in the morning and afternoon, but there is no midday busing.

Registration for half-day sessions continues through the fall. Registration for the full-day session will continue until April 1 or until all spots are filled. A proof of residency and the child’s recent physical exam are required for attendance.

To register, call the district office at 315-341-2012 and leave your name, address, child’s name, and birth date. An application and registration packet will be mailed to you. Once completed, return the packet with the required documentation to the Education Center at the Leighton School playground. Drop-off hours are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Applications are also available on the Oswego City School District’s website.

An Open House will be held from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, at each of the elementary schools. Children are welcome to attend with their parents but are not required. This event provides an opportunity to tour the classroom and learn more about the UPK program.

The program follows New York state guidelines and is aligned with the district’s curriculum. It focuses on language arts, cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development through age-appropriate and engaging activities.

The program is offered in partnership with the First Step Universal Pre-K LTD agency. For more information, call 315-598-2610.
