OHS Announces Top 2 in Class of 2025
Valedictorian Maggie O’LearyFor Oswego High School senior Maggie O’Leary, her commitment to her academics recently paid dividends when she was named the class of 2025 valedictorian. The daughter of Katie and Sean O’Leary, Maggie has exemplified academic excellence, leadership, and service throughout her high school career.
This fall, O’Leary will attend Colgate University, where she plans to study mathematical economics. “I hope that it will help me interpret the world in a meaningful and methodical manner,” she said. With her eyes set on a future in finance, she aspires to become either an investment banker or a quantitative analyst.
A driven and well-rounded student, O’Leary has been actively involved in a wide range of extracurriculars including indoor track, tennis, lacrosse, student council, Interact Club, and the Zonta Club. She is a member of both the National Honor Society and the Math Honor Society, as well as the Spanish Club and the Oswego County Academic Youth League. Musically talented, O’Leary has participated in both All-County and Area All-State Orchestra.
Reflecting on her success, O’Leary attributes it to her “constant drive to improve and grow,” describing herself as diligent, ambitious, and honest.
“I hope to be remembered by my teachers and classmates as someone who was reliable and hardworking,” she shared.
O’Leary also credits the Oswego City School District for shaping her academic journey. “I have met many other accomplished students that acted as incredible role models for me, and I have learned from many caring and dedicated teachers,” she said.
When asked to offer advice to her fellow classmates, O’Leary encouraged them to “build a strong community that encourages growth and compassion.”
Salutatorian Alaina DiBlasi
Oswego High School senior Alaina DiBlasi has received numerous athletic and academic accolades as a Buccaneer, and she recently added class of 2025 salutatorian to her long list of accomplishments.
A standout student-athlete and leader, Alaina is the daughter of Andrew and Susan DiBlasi and has attended Oswego City School District schools throughout her academic career.
This fall, DiBlasi will attend Binghamton University, where she will continue her athletic career playing lacrosse while pursuing a degree in engineering.
“I have always loved math, and I enjoy being creative and solving problems — both on paper and in real life,” she said of her choice to enter the field.
DiBlasi 's confidence and determination have been key drivers of her success, which she attributes to her internal motivation and the inspiration of her parents and older brothers.
During her time at Oswego High School, DiBlasi was involved in both academics and extracurricular activities. She was a member of the varsity soccer, hockey, and lacrosse teams, and served in leadership roles through student council and as a class officer. She was also a dedicated member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Club.
Describing herself as confident, determined, and caring, DiBlasi hopes to be remembered by her teachers and peers as someone who “was nice to everyone and tried her hardest as a student and a person to gain the respect of others.”
Reflecting on her time in the Oswego City School District, she said, “I have grown up in the OCSD and made all my friends within the system, which has shaped me as a person. I also learned everything I know from the teachers who have taught me over the years and motivated me to be the best student I can.”
