Oswego High School Takes Action Against Vaping and Smoking During The Great American Smokeout

The Oswego High School Friends of Rachel (FOR) and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) clubs joined forces with Reality Check, a statewide youth-led organization dedicated to reducing tobacco and vape use, to bring awareness to this year’s Great American Smokeout.

After meeting with Reality Check and exploring its prevention materials, students were inspired to broaden the effort within the school and help their peers better understand the risks associated with smoking and vaping.

“OHS' FOR/SADD club paired up with Reality Check to participate in the Great American Smokeout Day, sharing information about the dangers of smoking and vaping while also dispersing resources to help quit," said school counselor Dylan Vitale. “From posters decorating hallways and bathrooms, wearing purple to show solidarity and tabling during lunch periods, OHS staff and students came together for the anti-smoking event.”

The event drew strong attention and participation from students and staff, making the Great American Smokeout a clear success while highlighting Oswego City School District’s commitment to safety, innovation and learning.
