Oswego City School District Receives Shineman Foundation Grants to Expand Experiential Learning
The Oswego City School District has received two grants from the Richard S. Shineman Foundation to support hands-on and experiential learning opportunities aligned with the district’s mission to empower and engage learners and ensure future success for all students. The district was awarded a $2,500 Community Impact Grant for science and engineering to purchase supplies for science and engineering design lessons in kindergarten through sixth-grade classrooms. These materials will enhance instruction through collaborative hands-on learning experiences that promote critical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork.
The district also received a $10,000 Strategic Grant from the foundation to provide one additional field experience or in-school presenter for each grade level in kindergarten through eighth grade during the 2025-26 school year. These opportunities expand access to meaningful curriculum-aligned experiences in science and social studies beyond those already funded by the district.
Together, the grants support the district’s focus on equity and literacy by building students’ background knowledge and vocabulary. They advance the district’s mission to empower and engage learners and its vision of equity and excellence, promoting hands-on learning, innovation, collaboration and strong community connections for all students.
