The Oswego City School District wants our community to be involved. Voting is an essential right to exercise and is important to the success of our schools. Please read the information below to find information related to voter registration. If there are any questions, please feel free to contact the District Clerk. |
To register to vote you must:
- Be a citizen of the United States.
- Be 18 years of age by December 31 of the year in which you register. NOTE: but in order to vote, you must be 18 years old by the day of the election in which you want to vote.
- Be a resident of the county for at least 30 days before the election.
- Not be in prison or on parole for a felony conviction (unless parolee pardoned or restored rights of citizenship);
- Not claim the right to vote elsewhere.
How do I register?
You can obtain a mail registration form by calling 315-349-8350 or 315-349-8351. You can also download a form or fill one out online by visiting www.oswegocounty.com. Forms are also available at most government offices, post offices and libraries. Complete the form and mail it to your County Board of Elections. You may also register in person at your County Board of Elections. To register in Oswego County mail the voter registration form to, Oswego County Board of Elections, 185 East Seneca St., Oswego, NY 13126.You need to re-register to vote if:
- You move out of the county
- Change your name
- Change your party enrollment
- If you move within your county call your County Board of Elections for specific instructions.
To vote in the Oswego City School District vote:
You must:- Be 18 years old
- Be a US Citizen
- Live in the district for 30 days prior to vote (legal residence)
- Be registered with the Oswego County Board of Elections
Absentee and Early Ballot Information:
Any registered voter who would simply like to vote Early, can do so by applying for an Early Ballot application.
Any registered voter who will be out of their county of residence on any Primary, Special or General Election Day due to occupation, business, vacation or studies; is ill or disabled; or is detained in jail awaiting Grand Jury action or confined in prison after conviction for an offense other than a felony, may apply for an absentee ballot.
Anyone who is permanently ill or disabled may apply for a Permanent Absentee Ballot. The Board of Elections will investigate the facts given and, if satisfied, will mark the voter’s record "Permanently Disabled" A ballot will automatically be mailed for each election thereafter in which the voter is qualified to vote.
HOW DOES AN ABSENTEE OR EARLY BALLOT WORK?
An Absentee or Early Ballot is a paper ballot which looks exactly like the ballot on the voting machine. In this manner, your vote remains confidential.
Keep in mind that unless the Oath Envelope is signed, the Ballot is enclosed in the Oath Envelope and sealed, your ballot will not be counted.
This ballot, if mailed, must be postmarked no later than the day before election or, if personally delivered, must be received by the Oswego City School District - District Clerk no later than the close of polls on election day-9:00 PM.
HOW DO I APPLY FOR AN ABSENTEE OR EARLY BALLOT?
It’s easy. Anytime during the year you may telephone, email or write to the Oswego City School District – District Clerk requesting an application for the ballot. You may also apply in person at the Oswego City School District – Superintendent’s Office - District Clerks Office, or have someone pick up the application for you. These applications will be obtainable during school business hours from the District Clerk beginning April TBD, 2025.
Upon completion, the application must be mailed or delivered to the Oswego City School District, Education Center at 1 Buccaneer Blvd, Oswego, NY 13126 to the attention of the District Clerk no later than seven days before the election or delivered in person no later than the day before the election.
WHEN DO I APPLY FOR AN ABSENTEE OR EARLY BALLOT?
You may request an Absentee or Early Ballot Application starting April TBD, 2025 for the May 20, 2025 Budget Vote and Board Member Election.
If you mail an application, it must be postmarked no later than seven days before the election for which you are requesting the Absentee or Early Ballot. If you are delivering the application in person (or someone you have designated is delivering it for you) you may do so up until close of business (4 p.m.) the day of the Oswego City School Budget and Board Election.
NOTES FOR THE ABSENTEE OR EARLY VOTER
Apply for your Absentee or Early Ballot as soon as you know you will need it.
Once the ballots are printed, you can apply for, receive, and cast your ballot all in one trip to the the Oswego City School District's District Clerk's Office located at the Education Center - Leighton Elementary, One Buccaneer Blvd, Oswego, NY 13126. Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
